This book is a collection of Peter Roquette's recent articles on the history of mathematics; most of them are revisions of articles that have already been published. In particular, \textit{1. The Brauer-Hasse-Noether Theorem} is a revised version of [Zbl 1060.01009]; \textit{2.~The remarkable career of Otto Grün} [Zbl 1087.01015] now has an additional section containing more information on Grün's (unsuccessful) attempts at securing financial means for continuing his research. \textit{3. At Emmy Noether's funeral} is the translation of an article on Weyl's funeral speech that has appeared in the Mitteilungen der DMV in 2007. \textit{4. Emmy Noether and Hermann Weyl} was published in [Zbl 1156.01011], and \textit{5. Emmy Noether: the testimonials} is a translation of an article published in the Mitteilungen der DMV in 2008, which deals with the letters of reference written on Noether's behalf after she had been dismissed from her position by the Nazi regime in 1933. \textit{6. Abraham Robinson and his infinitesimals} is a revised version of an article that has appeared in the Semesterberichte [Zbl 1203.01030], \textit{7. Cahit Arf and his invariant} is a revision of two articles published previously (see [Zbl 1256.11001]), with an appendix written jointly with Falko Lorenz. \textit{8. Hasse-Arf-Langlands} is a speech that introduced Robert Langlands at the Arf Lectures at METU in 2004, and \textit{9. Ernst Steinitz and abstract field theory} is a reprint from Crelle's Journal [Zbl 1226.01009]. \textit{10. Heinrich-Wolfgang Leopoldt} is an obituary that appeared in the J. Number Theory [Zbl 1237.01012], and the last chapter \textit{11. On Hoechsmann's Theorem} deals with the local-global principle for embedding problems over global fields [Zbl 1056.11070].
