For a function field of one variable \(F\) of genus \(g\) over \(K:={\mathbb F}_q\), the finite field of order \(q\), the number \(N(F)\) of its \(K\)-rational places is upper bounded by \(q+1+2g\sqrt{q}\) (Hasse-Weil). \textit{O. Geil} and \textit{R. Matsumoto} [J. Pure Appl. Algebra 213, No. 6, 1152--1156 (2009; Zbl 1180.14018)] upper bounded \(N(F)\) by means of Weierstrass semigroups \(H(P)\) at \(K\)-rational places \(P\) of \(F\), namely \(N(F)\leq \#(H(P)\setminus (qH(P)+H^*(P)))\). In this paper the authors generalize this bound via certain subsets of \({\mathbb Z}^n\) which look like Weierstrass semigroups at several points. The method used in this paper come from Coding Theory via evaluation maps at rational places.
