This paper is an extension of a previous one by the same author in [Differ. Equ. 48, No. 3, 309--317 (2012); translation from Differ. Uravn. 48, No. 3, 307--315 (2012; Zbl 1281.37011)]. In the current paper, the author considers a map from the plane to itself, with a hyperbolic fixed point and a non-transversal intersection between the stable and unstable manifolds of the fixed point, i.e., a homoclinic orbit. In [loc. cit.] it was showed that if the functions describing the map are \(C^1\), the system has infinitely many stable periodic points with characteristic exponents bounded away from zero. The current paper shows this to be true if the functions are \(C^r\) with \(1\leq r\leq\infty\), and also gives a method for deriving such functions.
