The author introduces a natural Finsler structure on convex surfaces, referred to as the quotient Finsler structure, which is dual in a sense to the inclusion of a convex surface in a normed space as a submanifold. It has an associated quotient girth, which is similar to the notion of girth defined by Schäffer. The author firstly recalls some basic definitions of Finsler geometry and relations to symplectic geometry, and he then presents some definitions and basic properties of the quotient girth. As main theorems, the author proves analogs of Schäffer's dual girth conjecture (proved by Álvarez and Paiva) and the Holmes-Thompson dual volumes theorem in the quotient setting. Furthermore, he also recalls some basic constructions on the oriented Grassmannians, shows that the quotient Finsler structure admits a natural extension to higher Grassmannians, and proves the corresponding theorems in the general case. Along the paper, the author follows Álvarez and Paiva's approach to investigate the girth problem, namely, he studies the symplectic geometry of the associated co-ball bundles, and applies the theory of Hamiltonian actions for the higher Grassmannians. This approach can be used to study more important and interesting problems in Finsler geometry.
