This paper discusses the approximation of Fourier coefficients \(\hat f(k)\) by Fourier Lagrange coefficients \((\hat f)_n^*(k)\). Let \(\omega_r(\delta,f)\) be the \(r\)-th uniform modulus of smoothness, \(\omega_r(\delta,f,x)\) the \(r\)-th local modulus of smoothness of \(f\) at a point \(x\), and \[ \tau_r(\delta,f):=\int\limits_0^{2\pi}\omega_r(\delta,f,x)\,dt \] the \(\tau\)-modulus. It is known that for \(f\in R(0,2\pi)\) (i.e. Riemann integrable) \[ |\hat f(k)-(\hat f)_n^*(k)|\leq \left(1+\frac{1}{n}\right)C_r\tau_r\left(\frac{1}{n},f\right)\leq 2(1+\pi)C_r\omega_r\left(\frac{1}{n},f\right) \eqno(1) \] In the paper is proved that in the inequality (1) the error \(|\hat f(k)-(\hat f)_n^*(k)|\) can show the same rate as the \(\tau\)-modulus, when at the same time the rate is strictly better than the rate of the uniform modulus.
