In this interesting paper the authors introduce a general notion of entropy function \(h\) for abelian categories \(\mathfrak{M}\) which is an invariant of \(\mathfrak M\), i.e., it takes the same value on isomorphic objects, and it satisfies two sorts of compatibility relations with respect to exact sequences and direct sums of objects in \(\mathfrak M\). They study entropy functions of module categories such as the category of all abelian groups \(\mathbf{AbGrp}\) or the category \(\mathbf{Mod}_R\) of all left modules over a ring \(R\). In the latter they describe the category of \textit{algebraic flows} \(\mathbf{Flow}_R\) and introduce radicals of the category capturing the dynamics of endomorphisms. Then they analyze specific known algebraic entropies of \(\mathbf{Flow}_{\mathbf{AbGrp}}\) and \(\mathbf{Flow}_{\mathbf{TorAbGrp}}\), where \(\mathbf{TorAbGrp}\) is the category of all torsion abelian groups, and also analyze the \(i\)-entropy, where they find a torsion theory with respect to each of these entropy functions. Finally, the authors consider the measure entropy and the topological entropy which happen to satisfy the invariance property and the property on exact sequences, but they are continuous under taking inverse limits.
