Let \(f:M^n\rightarrow \mathbb{R}^2\) be a stable map of a smooth closed and connected manifold, \(n\geq 2\), and let \(S_f\) be the singular set of \(f\). The pair \(\mathcal{P}=(f(M),f(S_f))\), up to diffeomorphisms of \(\mathbb{R}^2\), is called the planar portrait of \(M\) through \(f\). In this interesting article the author presents a semi-local study for a basic piece of \(\mathcal{P}\) called the cusp fan, by studying fibering structures over it and by giving a geometric characterization. Various examples of stable maps and planar portraits of closed manifolds are given. Also, two infiniteness properties of planar portraits are illustrated by using these examples.
