For the group \(\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb R),\) the authors show a version of the Schwartz theorem on spectral analysis for the group \(G\). They also show that in \(L^p(\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb R) \) a smooth function is not mean periodic unless it is a cusp form. The failure of the Schwartz-like theorem is also proved when \(\mathcal C^\infty (\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb R))\) is replaced by \(L^p(\mathbb R)\) with suitable \(p\). They show that the last result is linked with the failure of the Wiener-Tauberian theorem for \(\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb R)\). More precisely, they show: write \(\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb R)=KAN \ni g=\kappa(g) \exp(H(g)) n(g), \hat K=\{ e_n, n\in \mathbb Z\} \), for \(G \ni x, k\in K, \lambda \in \hat A, e^n_{\lambda,k}(x):=\exp(-\lambda (H(x^{-1}k^{-1})e_n (\kappa(x^{-1}k^{-1}))^{-1}.\) Then a left invariant translation nontrivial invariant closed subspace of \(\mathcal C^\infty (\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb R))_n\) contains the function \(e^n_{\lambda,k} \forall k \) and a convenient value of \(\lambda\).
