Consider a closed smooth oriented 4-manifold \(X\) underlying a Kähler surface such that \(p_g(X)=0\). A complex structure \(J\) on \(X\) is ``symplectic generic'' if for any symplectic form \(\omega\) of \(X\) such that \(-c_1(X,\omega)\) coincides with the canonical class \(K_J\), there exists a Kähler form \(\omega^\prime\) cohomologous to either \(\omega\) or \(-\omega\). First, the authors show the existence of a smooth uniruled complex manifold which does not admit a symplectic generic complex structure. This manifold is \(X=(\Sigma\times S^2)\sharp \overline {\mathbb{CP}^2}\), where \(\Sigma\) is a Riemann surface of genus 1. Then they consider the same problem in the case of smooth minimal 4-manifolds with negative Kodaira dimension. The result is that a 4-manifold which underlies a Burniat surface does not admit a symplectic generic complex structure.
