Nachbin spaces are function spaces defined by a given family \(V\) of weight functions. The authors consider here the case in which \(V\) consists of a single element, bounded above but not necessarily below, and connect the resulting spaces with those particular algebras of unbounded operators called \(CQ^*\)-algebras. In more detail: Let \(X\) be a locally compact Hausdorff space, \(C(X)\) the set of continuous, complex-valued functions on \(X\), \(C_b(X)\) the set of bounded functions on \(X\), and \(C_0(X)\) the set of functions in \(C(X)\) vanishing at infinity. The authors introduce further the sets \[ C_b^v(X)=\{f\in C(X):\,vf \text{ is bounded on } X\}, \] \[ C_0^v(X)=\{f\in C(X):\,vf \text{ vanishes at infinity on } X\}, \] \(v\) being a suitable weight function, and they investigate them in connection with abelian \(CQ^*\)-algebras. In this analysis, a special role is played by the topologies introduced.
