Epigroups are semigroups in which some power of each element belongs to a subgroup. As such, they may be considered as semigroups with an additional unary operation. From that point of view, \textit{L. N. Shevrin} [Fundam. Prikl. Mat. 14, No. 6, 219-229 (2008)] initiated a study of the properties of the lattice of subepigroups of an epigroup. Here the author provides a structural characterization of the epigroups for which that lattice is lower semimodular. It is not totally surprising that the characterization is similar to that obtained by the reviewer [J. Algebra 324, No. 9, 2089-2111 (2010; Zbl 1221.20043)] for lower semimodularity of the lattice of (usual) subsemigroups of a semigroup, when specialized to periodic semigroups, where the two lattices coincide. Although the most difficult cases in the reviewer's work have no analogues here, extending from periodic semigroups to epigroups in general still requires substantial reworking and innovation in the arguments.
