Let \((X,\omega)\) be a symplectic manifold and \((Y,\alpha)\) a prequantum \(\mathrm{U}(1)\)-bundle over \((X,\omega)\). Let \(\pi\) be the Poisson bivector field associated to \(\omega\) and \(\pi^\sharp\) the horizontal lift of \(\pi\) to \(Y\) with respect to \(\alpha\). The authors define the ``Souriau bracket'' of \(f,g\in C^\infty(Y,\mathbb{C})\) as \( [[f,g]]:=\pi^\sharp(\mathrm{d}f,\mathrm{d}g)\). It satisfies the Leibnitz rule but not the Jacobi identity, thus it fails to define a star product \(F\bullet \Psi\), for a classical observable \(F\in C^\infty(X,\mathbb{C})\) and a \(\mathrm{U}(1)\)-equivariant map \(\Psi: Y\longrightarrow \mathbb{C}\), called a ``prequantum wave function''. The authors prove that under certain conditions, one can define a quantum operator \(\mathcal{Q}\) on \(C^\infty(X,\mathbb{C})\) such that \(\mathcal{Q}F[\Psi]= F\bullet \Psi\), where \(F\bullet\Psi\) is a star product with \(F\bullet\Psi\mod\hbar^2=F\Psi+ \frac{\hbar}{i}[[F,\Psi]]\).
