We know from the theory of Lie groups that if \(G\) is a Lie group then its tangent space \(TG\) is also a Lie group. Also a multiplicative distribution \(S\subseteq TG\) is a distribution on \(G\), that is a subgroup of \(TG\), and is a smooth left invariant subbundle of \(TG\). The leaf \(N\) of \(S\) through the unit element \(e\) of \(G\) is a normal subgroup of \(G\) and the leaf space \(G/S\) of \(S\) is a Lie group, where \(N\) is closed in \(G\). On the other hand, it is well-known that if \(G\) is a Lie groupoid over \(P\), then its tangent space \(TG\) is also a Lie groupoid over the tangent space \(TP\) of the units. Furthermore, it is called a multiplicatice distribution \(S\subseteq TG\) on \(G\) if S is a subgroupoid of \(TG\). In this paper, the author generalizes the informations above about Lie groups to Lie groupoids. More precisely, it is shown that if a smooth multiplicative subbundle \(S\subseteq TG\) on a Lie groupoid over \(P\) is involutive and satisfies completeness conditions, then its leaf space \(G/S\) admits a groupoid structure over the space of leaves of \(TP\cap S\) in \(P\). Finally, the author applies this informations to Dirac groupoids.
