In 1993, I. P. Shestakov formulated the following Question 3.103: Are there finite dimensional central simple algebras over a field of characteristic \(0\) that do not have a finite basis of identities? [\textit{V. T. Filippov} (comp.) et al., The Dniestr notebook. Unsolved problems in the theory of rings and modules. 4th ed. (in Russian) Novosibirsk: Institut Matematiki SO RAN, 74 p. (1993; Zbl 0868.16001)]. The authors give an affirmative answer to Shestakov's question. Namely, they announce the following result. Theorem 1. Let \(B =\langle 1, v_1, v_2, e_{11}, e_{12}, e_{22},p\rangle_F \) be an algebra over an arbitrary field \(F\), where 1 is a unit and the nonzero products of basis elements different from 1 are defined by the rules \(v_ie_{ij} = v_j\), and \(v_2p = 1\). Then the algebra \(B\) is a simple central \(F\)-algebra having no finite basis of identities. In addition, the paper contains several results (Theorems 2, 3, 4 and Lemma) used in the proof of Theorem 1. Proofs of these results are also absent, but given in their paper [Commun. Algebra 41, No. 12, 4593--4601 (2013; Zbl 1367.17002)].
