Fracture mechanics defines load parameters and criteria in order to quantitatively assess crack behavior in materials and components under static, dynamic, or cyclic loading. Numerical methods are widely used for fracture mechanics analyses. In particular, the finite element method has been established in many areas of engineering as a universal and efficient tool of modern design and stress analysis. Crack analyses require particular theoretical precognition and numerical algorithms. Many of them are not included into engineer's education. The aim of the book is to fill the gap. The main part of the book is focused on specific numerical techniques to analyze plane and spatial crack problems in elastic and plastic materials. The textbook is addressed to graduate students of engineering courses. It can be helpful also for engineers in design and computation departments of many industrial branches. The book should build a bridge for material scientists and material engineers to use numerical techniques for material modeling.
