The author studies nonlinear problems of the type \(A_{s}u=f(u)\) in \(\Omega ,\) \(u=0\) on \(\partial \Omega ,\) \(u>0\) in \(\Omega ,\) where \(\Omega \) is a smooth bounded domain of \(R^{n}\) and \(A_{s},\) \(s\in (1/2,1)\), stands for the fractional power of the Dirichlet Laplacian \(-\Delta \) in \(\Omega ,\) with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. The author establishes existence and regularity results, extending the results for \(s=2\) given by \textit{X. Cabre} and \textit{J. Tan} [Adv. Math. 224, No. 5, 2052--2093 (2010; Zbl 1198.35286)] and proves that the nonnegative solution must be strictly positive inside the domain. A study of the boundedness of the solution is done via a priori estimates of Gidas-Spruck type.
