The sifting lemma was established by \textit{L. Shantao} to prove the structural stability conjecture for the 3-dimensional flows [Chin. Ann. Math. 1, 9--30 (1980; Zbl 0449.58013)]. Recently, many important applications of this celebrated lemma emerged to investigate the robustness of the system and the Palis' density conjecture. In the paper under review, the authors give a sifting-type lemma. More precisely, they sift out a continuous infinite ``\((\xi_1,\xi_2)\)-Liao string'' sequence for any real sequence \(\{a_i\}_1^{\infty}\) with \[ \limsup\frac{1}{n}\sum_{i=1}^n a_i=\xi\in (\xi_1,\xi_2). \] The authors also give an example to show how to sift out quasi-hyperbolic strings by this sifting-type lemma. This work is an improvement of some results in [\textit{X. Wen} et al., J. Differ. Equations 246, No. 1, 340--357 (2009; Zbl 1154.37016)].
