The author improves upon the tables presented in \url{http://www.manypoints.org/} by constructing new examples of curves defined over finite fields with many points, especially over finite fields with cardinality at most \(5\) and genus up to \(2\). In particular, the author produces a curve of genus 17 over the finite field with two elements having \(18\) rational points, the maximum possible for such curves.
