Markoff considered the Diophantine equation \(x^2+ y^2+ z^2= 3xyz\) over the integers. He described an algorithm to construct all integral solutions from one fundamental solution \((1,1,1)\). His method and result were extended to the equation \(ax^2+ by^2+ cz^2= dxyz\) over the integers [the reviewer, J. Reine Angew. Math. 305, 122--125 (1979; Zbl 0392.10018)] and over quadratic imaginary fields [\textit{Chr. Baer} and the reviewer, Result. Math. 33, No. 1--2, 30--39 (1998; Zbl 0930.11012)]. In the paper under review the authors consider solutions of the more general equation above in arithmetic progressions that lie the ring of integers of a number field and describe finiteness results for these solutions.
