    The paper deals with the bifurcation of limit cycles under small quadratic perturbations of the reversible system \[ \dot{x}=y+4x^2,\quad \dot{y}=-x+2xy \] which has a unique center with a period annulus bounded by the parabola \(y=\frac18-3x^2\) and a first integral \(H=(\frac12-y)^{-4}(\frac12x^2+\frac16y-\frac{1}{48})\). By using the method of abelian integrals, the authors establish that at most two limit cycles can bifurcate from the open period annulus.
