The authors consider the topological entropy \(h\) introduced in [\textit{M. Patrão}, Ergodic Theory Dyn. Syst. 30, No. 5, 1529--1542 (2010; Zbl 1208.37008)] generalizing the usual notion of topological entropy for compact spaces from [\textit{R. Adler, A. Konheim} and \textit{H. McAndrew}, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 114, 309--319 (1965; Zbl 0127.13102)]. Let \(G\) be connected Lie group and \(\phi:G\to G\) a surjective endomorphism. Denote by \(T(G)\) the toral component of the connected component of the center of \(G\). The main result of this paper states that \(h(\phi)=h(\phi\restriction_{T(G)})\) if \(G\) is nilpotent. It is proved that the same occurs also under other conditions on \(G\), and, in particular, when \(G\) is compact. Moreover, in case \(G\) is semisimple, \(h(\phi)=h(\phi\restriction_{T(G)})=0\).
