Let \(k\) be an algebraically closed field of characteristic \(0\), \(M\) a lattice of rank \(n\), \(T=\text{Spec }k[M]\) the corresponding torus, \(N=\text{Hom }(M,\mathbb{Z})\) the dual lattice and \(\sigma\subseteq \mathbb{N}_{\mathbb{Q}}\) a polyhedral cone. Let \(Y\) be a normal semiprojective variety, i.e., projective over an affine variety, and \(\mathcal{D}\) be a polyhedral divisor on \(Y\), i.e., \(\mathcal{D}=\sum_Z\Delta_Z\cdot Z\), where \(Z\) runs over the prime divisors of \(Y\) and the coefficients \(\Delta_Z\) are all \(\sigma\)-polyhedra with \(\Delta_Z=\sigma\) for all but finitely many of them. For \(u\in \sigma^\vee_M\) let \(\mathcal{D}(u)=\sum_Z\min_{v\in\Delta_Z}\langle u,v\rangle Z\). The divisor \(\mathcal{D}\) defines a sheaf \(\mathcal{A}[\mathcal{D}]\) of \(M\)-graded \(\mathcal{O}_Y\)-algebras \(\mathcal{A}[\mathcal{D}]=\bigoplus_{u\in\sigma^v_M}\mathcal{O}(\mathcal{D}(u))\chi^n\) and its ring of global sections \(A[\mathcal{D}]=H^0(Y, \mathcal{A}[\mathcal{D}])\). Let \(X[\mathcal{D}]\) resp. \(\widetilde{X}[\mathcal{D}]\) be Spec \(A[\mathcal{D}]\) resp. \(\text{Spec}_Y\) \(\mathcal{A}[\mathcal{D}]\). Both varieties admit an effective action of the torus \(T\) and there is a proper birational equivariant morphism \(\widetilde{X}[\mathcal{D}]\to X[\mathcal{D}]\). \([\mathcal{D}]\) is a normal affine variety and \(\widetilde{X}[\mathcal{D}]\to X[\mathcal{D}]\) is a partial resolution of singularities having only toric singularities. Criteria are given for \(X[\mathcal{D}]\) having only rational, (\(\mathbb{Q}\)-)factorial, (\(\mathbb{Q}\)-)Gorenstein singularities, being Cohen-Macaulay or log-terminal.
