Observing that the centripetal parametrization which is optimal in the univariate case does not significantly improve the behaviour of the surface in the tensor product bivariate setting, the authors present here a novel class of non-uniform, non-tensor product, local interpolatory sub-division surfaces that generalizes non-uniform interpolatory 4-point schemes to regular quadrilateral meshes. For a similar non-tensor product configuration reference may be made to \textit{K. Muller} et al. [ACM Trans. Graphics, 25, 268--292 (2006)] and \textit{T. J. Cashman} et al. [Comput. Aided Geom. Des. 26, No. 1, 94--104 (2009; Zbl 1205.65045)] where the authors propose non-uniform subdivision algorithms based an biquadratic and bicubic B-splines. Some numerical examples are also given to confirm the effectiveness of the proposition made in the paper and its advantages with respect to non-uniform tensor product subdividion and splines.
