This paper classifies derived equivalence classes of cluster-tilted algebras of type \(E\), explicitly determining the number of derived equivalence classes and number of algebras in each class. For type \(E_6\) they even give representatives of these isomorphism classes of algebras in terms of quivers with relations; other types are available in a supplementary document on the preprint arXiv. The idea behind the classification is explained clearly and simply in Section 1.2. Let \(C_A\) be the Cartan matrix of a cluster tilted algebra of type \(E\), and denote by \(C_A^{-T}\) the inverse of the transpose of \(C_A\). Remarkably, they find that derived equivalence is determined by only two invariants: \(\det C_A\) and the characteristic polynomial of \(C_AC_A^{-T}\); they call the product of these two invariants the ``associated polynomial'' of \(A\). Another key ingredient in their classification is to show that two cluster-tilted algebras of type \(E\) are derived equivalent if and only if their quivers are connected by a sequence of ``good'' mutations, which are mutations that can be realized in terms of Brenner-Butler (co-)tilting. In Section 1.3 they explain that type \(E\) is similar to the situation in type \(A\) and actually simpler than the situation in type \(D\), where there are still open questions (which they describe for the reader's benefit).
