The bilinear pseudodifferential operator with the symbol \(\sigma (x, \xi, \eta)\) is a priory defined on test functions by the formula \[ T_\sigma (f,g)(x)=\int_{\mathbb{R}^{2n}} \sigma (x, \xi, \eta) \hat f(\xi) \hat g (\eta) e^{ix \cdot (\xi+\eta)}\, d\xi \,d\eta. \] The authors consider a special class of symbols for which \(T_\sigma\) has an exotic behavior in the sense that it is unbounded on products of Lebesgue spaces, like \(L^p \times L^q\), but bounded on products of Sobolev spaces. The case of \(x\)-independent symbols yields a new paramultiplication operation and related estimates.
