Summary: An improved line search filter algorithm for the system of nonlinear equations is presented. We divide the equations into two groups, one contains the equations that are treated as equality constraints and the square of other equations is regarded as objective function. Two groups of equations are updated at every iteration in the works by \textit{P.-Y. Nie} [Appl. Math. Comput. 149, No. 1, 215--226 (2004; Zbl 1044.65041); Appl. Math. Comput. 172, No. 2, 892--902 (2006; Zbl 1088.65049); Math. Comput. Modelling 43, No. 3--4, 368--373 (2006; Zbl 1171.90551)], by \textit{P.-Y. Nie} et al. [Comput. Math. Appl. 55, No. 9, 2134--2141 (2008; Zbl 1144.90491)], and by \textit{C. Gu} [Appl. Math. Comput. 217, No. 22, 9351--9357 (2011; Zbl 1223.65036)], while we just update them at the iterations when it is needed indeed. As a consequence, the scale of the calculation is decreased in a certain degree. Under some suitable conditions the global convergence can be induced. In the end, numerical experiments show that the method in this paper is effective.
