The expected value of support functions of random polytopes, in a fixed direction, is estimated. Results are obtained using probabilistic and analytical tools involving Orlicz norms, so pointing out interesting interplays between convex geometry and classical Orlicz spaces. Given an isotropic convex body \(K\) the random polytope \(K_N=\mathrm{conv}\{\pm X_1,\dots,\pm X_N\}\) is considered, where \(X_1,\dots,X_N\) are independent random vectors uniformly distributed in \(K\). The special case when \(K\) is symmetric is mainly studied, and sets of special directions are explored concerning lower and upper bounds of the expected value of the support function in these directions.
