The authors study positive measures \(\psi\) on a real interval \([a,b]\), \(0\leq a<b\leq\infty\), such that all integer moments (positive and negative) are finite. For such strong positive measures the sequence \(\{Q_n\}_{n\geq0}\) of monic polynomials, \(Q_n\) is of degree \(n\), with \[ \int_a^b x^{-n+j}Q_n(x)\psi(dx)=0, \quad j=0,1,\dots,n-1, \] exists and is called the sequence of \(L\)-orthogonal polynomials. These polynomials satisfy the three term recurrence relation of the standard type. The main subject of the paper is a pair \((\psi_0,\psi_1)\) of strong positive measures, related by \[ (x-\kappa)\psi_1(dx)= \gamma\psi_0(dx), \] where a non-zero constant \(\gamma\) is such that \((x-\kappa)\gamma^{-1}\) is positive on \((a,b)\), and corresponding \(L\)-orthogonal polynomials \(\{Q_n^{(k)}\}\), \(k=1,2\). The relations between these sequences and between three term recurrence coefficients are obtained. Some new examples of \(L\)-orthogonal polynomials is constructed. Finally, the authors examine the monotonicity properties of zeros of certain \(L\)-orthogonal polynomials.
