The author establishes the existence of analytic solutions, for partial differential equations, under certain conditions on the roots of the so-called indicial equation. A sufficient condition is given under which the characteristic Cauchy problem \(Lu=f\), \(D^j_yu(x,0)=v_j\), \(0\leq j\leq m-1\) has an analytic solution. Partial differential operators of the form \[ L=y^mD_y^m \sum^{m-1}_{k=0} y^\alpha b^\alpha D^\alpha_y+ \sum^m_{j=1} \sum_{|\alpha |\neq j=k}y^k a^{\alpha_j} D^\alpha_xD^j_y,\;1\leq|\alpha|,\quad x\in \mathbb{C}^N,\;y\in\mathbb{C} \] are considered, using the standard multi-index notation, where \(b^\alpha\) and \(a^{\alpha_j}\) are holomorphic. The operator \(L\) has a Fuchsian part which appears in the classical theorem for ordinary differential equations but the mixed derivative terms also have a factor of \(y\). If this factor is omitted then the existence or the uniqueness of the solution may fail.
