The author examines the finite amplitude oscillatory motion of an elastically supported rigid cylinder in cylindrical rigid duct conveying compressible fluid. The flow is assumed to be inviscid and irrotational, and the body performs free transverse vibrations. The equations of motion are nonlinear Euler equations together with continuity equation and equation of state for ideal gas. The author applies a perturbation analysis to calculate not only the dynamic characteristics of small coupled oscillations, but also the corrections due to nonlinearities of vibroacoustic problem. To make the calculations more transparent, the author discusses a simpler problem which describes a two-dimensional channel flow between rigid wall and elastically supported rigid plate.
