This paper is on the initial value problem \[ u'(t) = A(t)u(t) \quad (0 \leq s \leq t \leq T), \quad u(s) = \zeta \tag{1} \] in a Banach space \(E.\) The operators \(A(t)\) are invertible, and bounds in certain sectors are postulated for \(\|(\lambda - A(t))^{-1}\|\) and for \(\|A(t)(\lambda - A(t))^{-1}(A(t)^{-1} - A(s)^{-1})\|.\) It is known that under these conditions an evolution operator \(S(t, s)\) of parabolic type for (1) exists; in this approach, \(S(t, s)\) is obtained, via fractional power techniques, as the solution of an operator integral equation (see references in paper). The authors obtain this result in a different way, which consists of reducing (1) to an autonomous differential equation in the space \(C_0(0, T; X)\) of \(X\)-valued continuous functions defined in \(0 \leq t \leq T\) and vanishing at \(t = 0,\) equipped with the supremum norm. Once this is done, standard generation theorems for analytic semigroups are used. An application to parabolic equations is shown.
