As pointed out by the author, important progress has been achieved in recent years in the parametrization of isospectral classes of potentials. This is an essential step in inverse spectral theory in one dimension, which involves recovering a Schrödinger operator from the knowledge of the spectrum and of a spectral function. In the paper, one of the consequences of a general formulation obtained using the Krein spectral shift function [due to \textit{F. Gesztesy} and \textit{B. Simon}, Acta Math. 176, 49-71 (1996; Zbl 0885.34070)] is investigated. A relation between the Riemann zeta function and the Krein spectral shift associated with the harmonic oscillator in one dimension is proven. And this gives also a new integral representation of the zeta function, and leads to a reformulation of the Riemann hypothesis as a closure problem in the space \(L^1(R)\).
