The authors showed earlier [IMA J. Appl. Math. 54, No. 2, 109-123 (1995; Zbl 0837.73026)], that plane strain and axially symmetric deformations of elastic Varga materials admit certain first integrals. In this case the solutions for finite deformations can be determined from a second-order partial differential equation. The main goal of this paper is to present general equations for small deformations which are superimposed upon a large deformation. These equations are linear but highly nonhomogeneous.
