\textit{C. R. Stover} [Topology 29, No. 1, 9-26 (1990; Zbl 0696.55017)] first constructed resolutions of a space by a wedge of spheres. This is a kind of dual Adams resolution, and it has applications to function spaces. Working in the simplicial category, the present author constructs resolutions of this type in terms of \(\pi_{*}(X)\) as an algebra over primary homotopy operations. This latter involves compositions, Whitehead products including \(\pi_{1}\) action. While this has algebraic elegance, the construction is quite complex and involves much simplicial theory. The principal application is to characterize a loop space as a space with trivial Whitehead products, whose higher homotopy operations vanish coherently. The question of whether a space is an \(H\)-space or a loop space may also be treated in terms of whether the \(k\)-invariants are primitive or suspensions, or by the methods of \textit{J. Stasheff} [\(H\)-spaces from a homotopy point of view, Lect. Notes Math. 161 (1970; Zbl 0205.27701)] or the methods of \textit{M. Sugawara} [Math. J. Okayama Univ. 7, 123-149 (1957; Zbl 0091.37201)].
