Using the concept of ``effective'' interaction potential the author shows why a pair of solitary-waves of like polarity can form a bound state and why a pair of opposite polarity cannot. The author investigates the damping effect and shows the significance of the damping effect on stabilizing. By contrast, in a weakly dissipative media, the parametric amplification of the high frequency oscillation leads to the complexity of the nonlinear interaction, and even the transition to chaos. Moreover, the author shows the existence of the double-pulse bound state in some generalized parametrically driven and damped systems.
