Connes' tangent groupoid and strict quantization (Q1962801)

The paper provides an introduction to quantization theory from the point of view of Connes' quantization rules. The authors develop in detail the formalism based on the construction sketched by Connes. They address one of the open problems in quantization theory listed recently by Rieffel, i.e., ``\dots{} in what ways can a suitable Riemannian metric on a manifold \(M\) be used to obtain a strict deformation quantization of \(T^*M\)?'' The partial answer to this question given by Landsman is restated in terms of the formalism developed in the paper and moreover the authors show that there exists so called flabby quantization. The construction generalizes the Moyal rule. The presentation is self-contained and necessary background material is included.
