This paper deals with a nonlocal generalization of a famous C. Fefferman-D. Phong inequality proved in the class \(C^\infty_0(\mathbb{R}^n)\). In the context of the paper under consideration ``nonlocal'' means that the corresponding functional class does not involve compactly supported functions. The author proposes an interesting application of this generalized inequality to the study of the regularity of the solutions to quasilinear subelliptic equations, modelled on the \(p\)-sub-Laplacian. More precisely, Harnack type inequality is proved and the Hölder continuity of the weak solutions of the equations mentioned above is shown. At the end of the paper an extension of a result by V. Maz'ya is proved, too.
