A practical guide to direct optimization for planar grid-generation (Q1963017)

The authors consider variational grid generation by direct optimization of a smoothness resp. length functional. They present a generalized length strategy featuring a generalized length functional, an associated interpolation right-hand side, and a mask for the latter as its main components that provide an utmost amount of flexibility in controlling the grid quality. The associated minimization problem is numerically solved by a multigrid method resulting in a grid generator of optimal complexity.
