In this paper, the authors investigate the existence of positive solutions to the boundary value problem \[ u''=f(u,hv)u, \quad v''=g(u)v,\quad u' (0) =0,\;u'(1)=0,\;v(0)=0,\;v'(1)=1,\tag{1} \] where \(h\) is a positive parameter. The authors define a solution \((u,v)\) to (1) to be positive if \(u(t)>0\) for all \(t\in [0,1]\). For some assumptions with respect to \(f(u,v)\) and \(g(u)\) the authors prove, that for some \(h_\lambda>0\) and \(h_s>h_\lambda\): (i) if \(h\in [0,\lambda_\lambda]\) problem (1) has at least one positive solution; further, these solutions decrease with \(h\); (ii) if \(h\in] h_\lambda, hs[\) problem (1) has at least two positive solutions; (iii) for \(h=h_s\) problem (1) has at least one positive solution; (iv) if \(h>h_s\) problem (1) has no solution.
