Joins for (augmented) simplicial sets (Q1963988)

The category of simplicial sets can be defined to be the category of functors from \(\Delta\), the category of finite ordinals, to \({\mathcal S}ets\), the category of sets. In this paper we show how the classical join of simplicial complexes extends to one on augmented simplicial sets and that this extension is induced from the ordinal sum functor defined from \(\Delta\times \Delta\) to \(\Delta\). Other consequences of the ordinal sum construction will be explored in future papers.
