The paper discusses a control architecture for nonlinear systems composed of a family of ``local'' PI controllers whose activities are confined to small local regions and their aggregation is realized through fuzzy interpolation. The system under control is a SISO nonlinear process governed by the relationship \(dy/dt= f(y(t), u(t))\) with ``\(y\)'' and ``\(u\)'' being the state and input variable, respectively. The design of the controller is composed of three steps: (i) a fuzzy discretization of the system's operating regions that give rise to ``local'' regions, (ii) a design of linear controllers confined to these ``local'' regions, (iii) a fuzzy interpolation of the local controllers in order to realize a global control action. The study includes a Lyapunov-based stability analysis of such control systems. Experimental studies deal with a \(pH\) control problem.
