Let \(f(z)=\sum_{n=0}^\infty a_{n}z^{n}\) be an entire transcendental function. Put \(M(r):=\max\{|f(z)|:|z|=r\}\), \(\mu(r):=\max\{|a_{n}|r^{n}: n\geq 0\}\), \(\kappa(n,m):=\frac{\log|a_{m}|-\log|a_{n}|}{n-m}\). The main results of the paper are the following two theorems: (1) The function \(L:=\log\mu\) is slowly growing (i.e. \(L(cr)\sim L(r)\) as \(r\rightarrow+\infty\) for each \(c>0\)) iff there exists a sequence \((n_{k})_{k=1}^\infty\) such that: \(\kappa(n_{k+1},n_{k})>\kappa(n_{k},n_{k-1})\) for \(k\geq 2\), \(\kappa(n_{k+1},n_{k})\leq\kappa(n,n_{k})\) for \(n_{k}<n<n_{k+1}\), and \(\kappa(n_{k+1},n_{k})+\frac{1}{n_{k+1}}\log|a_{n_{k}}|\rightarrow+\infty\) as \(k\rightarrow+\infty\). (2) Let \(\alpha:[0,+\infty)\rightarrow[0,+\infty)\) be a continuous increasing function such that the function \(x\rightarrow x\alpha(x)\) is convex. Assume that \(\log|a_{n}|\leq-n\alpha(n)\) for \(n\geq n_0\). Then the function \(\log M\) is slowly growing iff \(\liminf_{x\to+\infty}\frac{\alpha(x)}{x}>0\).
