The authors present two design techniques for stabilizing sampled feedbacks for linear controllable systems. Both techniques rely on the knowledge of optimal piecewise constant (open loop) control functions for certain optimal control problems, the first minimizing the \(L_\infty\)-norm of the control and the second minimizing its \(L_1\)-norm. In both cases the resulting controller is shown to stabilize the given system for some prescribed (and fixed) sampling rate. It should be mentioned that there exist solutions to this problem for much broader classes of systems, as described, e.g., in the survey papers by \textit{E. D. Sontag} [NATO ASI Ser., Ser. C, Math. Phys. Sci. 528, 551--598 (1999; Zbl 0937.93034)] and the reviewer [Lect. Notes Control Inf. Sci. 246, 165--182 (1999; Zbl 0945.93604)].
