Let \(G\) be a finite group, \(k\) a commutative ring and \(A\) a Green functor for \(G\) over \(k\). The author defines a pointed group on \(A\) to be a pair \(H_{\mathfrak p}\) consisting of a subgroup \(H\) of \(G\) and a prime ideal \(\mathfrak p\) of \(A(H)\). The set of pointed groups on \(A\) has a natural \(G\)-poset structure. A pointed group \(P_{\mathfrak q}\) on \(A\) is called primordial if \(\text{Ind}^P_Q(A(Q))\not\subseteq{\mathfrak q}\) for any proper subgroup \(Q\) of \(P\). One of the main results of this paper is an analogue of Sylow's theorem: Every pointed group on \(A\) contains a maximal primordial pointed subgroup \(P_{\mathfrak q}\) (called a defect of \(H_{\mathfrak p}\)), and any two maximal primordial pointed subgroups of \(H_{\mathfrak p}\) are \(G\)-conjugate. Moreover, if \(Q_{\mathfrak r}\) is a proper primordial pointed subgroup of \(P_{\mathfrak q}\) then \(O^p(P)\subseteq Q\) for some prime \(p\). The author also proves versions of the Green and Puig correspondence and of the Dress induction theorem. Known results about the spectra of Burnside and character rings are shown to follow easily from this general theory. Many ideas here have their origin in a paper of \textit{J. Thévenaz} [J. Algebra 140, No. 2, 426-483 (1991; Zbl 0797.20011)]. The main difference is that Thévenaz worked with maximal ideals, not arbitrary prime ideals.
