This paper is devoted to the study of the continuous cohomology of certain infinite dimensional topological Lie algebras and of sheaves of such Lie algebras. The paper starts with a discussion of the relation between the various cohomologies which are available for a differential graded Lie algebra respectively for a sheaf of differential graded Lie algebras. This is then applied to the Dolbeault resolution of the sheaf of holomorphic vector fields on a complex manifold \(X\), showing that the hypercohomology of \(X\) with coefficients in the sheaf of continuous cochains on the Lie algebra of holomorphic vector fields can be computed as the cohomology of the differential graded Lie algebra of global sections of the Dolbeault resolution. It is shown that the latter cohomology can also be computed as a certain cosimplicial cohomology associated to a Stein covering of \(X\). Generalizing results of \textit{N. Kawazumi} [Ann. Inst. Fourier 43, 655-712 (1993; Zbl 0782.57019)] to general Stein manifolds, the author arrives as an interpretation of the cohomology in question as the singular cohomology of the space of sections of a certain fiber bundle over \(X\), which is associated to the complex frame bundle. Finally, the author outlines known applications of the result in the case of a compact Riemann surface to conformal field theory, and describes some applications of his results to deformation theory and the theory of foliations.
