The author continues the study of the contact process on infinite connected graphs of bounded degree, started in joint papers with \textit{R. H. Schonmann} [Ann. Probab. 25, No. 4, 1846-1871 (1997; Zbl 0903.60085); and ibid. 26, No.~3, 1251-1258 (1998; Zbl 0937.60094)]. They proved that the contact process on a homogeneous tree which survives locally satisfies complete convergence. This implication, however, need not be true on more general graphs. In the paper under review, a tree of bounded degree is found on which complete convergence alternates between holding and failing infinitely many times as the infection parameter increases.
