The main result of this paper is the following theorem. Let \(G\) be a complete Hausdorff abelian topological group and let \(x_{ij}\in G\) for all \(i,j\in \mathbb{N}\). Assume that \(\sum_{i=1}^\infty x_{ij}\) converges for all \(j\); \(\sum_{j=1}^\infty x_{ij}\) converges for all \(i\); and for every sequence \(p_1< q_1< p_2< q_2<\dots\) there exists a sequence \(k_1< k_2<\dots\) such that \[ \sum_{i=1}^\infty \sum_{r=1}^\infty \sum_{j=p_k}^{q_k} x_{ij} \] (where \(k=k_r\)) converges. Then the three series \[ \sum_{i,j} x_{ij}, \qquad \sum_{i=1}^\infty \sum_{j=1}^\infty x_{ij}, \qquad \sum_{j=1}^\infty \sum_{i=1}^\infty x_{ij} \] are convergent and equal. In the proof the Antosik-Mikusinski matrix theorem (see, e.g., \textit{P. Antonsik} and \textit{C. Swartz} [Matrix methods in analysis (Lect. Notes Math. 1113, Springer-Verlag, Berlin) (1985; Zbl 0564.46001)]) is applied. Similar sufficient conditions for series in complete Hausdorff paranormed spaces, as well as interesting examples, are provided.
