Nonlocal elastic analogy for wave propagation in periodic layered composites (Q1970173)

The author presents a new method to predict the dynamic response of a composite material with periodic microstructure. The fundamental idea of the method is to replace the composite material by an equivalent homogeneous nonlocal elastic medium, for which the material moduli can be determined from dispersion curves obtained from other theories or from experiments. As an example, the author shows how to determine the equivalent nonlocal elastic moduli of a periodic layered composite in the case of wave propagating in the direction normal to the layers.
