The authors study (right) modules over a lower triangular matrix ring. They give explicit characterizations of several classes of modules such as uniform modules, projective modules, and generators, and they also provide a method to construct the projective cover of a module when it exists. The methods used in the paper are elementary but these constructions might be useful to people looking for examples. It should be noted, however, that there exists some overlap with a little known paper written in Italian by \textit{C. Menini} [Semin. Geom., Univ. Studi Bologna 1986, 99-129 (1988; Zbl 0666.16018)] in which a similar study is carried out, more generally, for trivial extension rings. For example, the characterization of projective modules given in Theorem 3.1 of the paper under review (suggested by the similar characterization of projective right ideals due to \textit{K. R. Goodearl} [`Ring theory. Nonsingular rings and modules' (1976; Zbl 0336.16001)]) is already contained in Proposition 2.8 of Menini's paper.
