Several schemes are considered for making use of parallelism in the numerical solution of initial value problems. In particular, a new family of multivalue methods, the half-block methods, are studied in detail. In these methods, the solution advances in a predictor-corrector manner, with the predictor for each step evaluated in parallel with the corrector in the previous step. The evaluation of the method is both experimental and theoretical, and includes stability considerations as well as cost estimations.
